Chronological Old Testament Reading Plan with Integrated New Testament (2 years)

This plan is designed to help you faithfully read the whole counsel of God without losing heart in the longer and more demanding books of the Old Testament. As you work through substantial sections such as Leviticus or Isaiah, the plan intentionally moves you into a New Testament book at the midpoint, then returns you to complete the Old Testament book you began. This rhythm keeps your soul anchored in the gospel while you engage the rich theology and unfolding story of redemption found in the Old Testament.

The four Gospels and the book of Proverbs are also thoughtfully woven throughout both years, providing regular encounters with the life of Christ and the wisdom of God as you journey through Scripture.

How the Plan Works

As you progress through longer Old Testament books, the plan periodically inserts a complete New Testament book at a strategic midpoint. After completing that New Testament reading, you return to finish the Old Testament book.

This pattern provides:

  • Sustained engagement through more demanding sections of Scripture

  • A steady rhythm of gospel clarity alongside the Law, the Prophets, and wisdom literature

  • A balanced view of the grand narrative of redemption—from creation, to Christ, to consummation

The Gospels and Proverbs are likewise spread throughout both years, giving recurring exposure to Jesus’ ministry and the practical wisdom of God.

What You Can Expect

  • Roughly 50 verses per day (a 10–12 minute reading), seven days a week

  • A consistent blend of narrative, prophecy, wisdom, and New Testament teaching

  • A deepened grasp of Scripture’s unity—how the promises, patterns, and people of the Old Testament find their fulfillment in the person and work of Jesus Christ

2-Year Chronological Bible Reading Plan

Have you ever heard a Bible story and felt like you were missing something? Have you tried to make Bible reading a priority in your life but repeatedly fallen short of your goals? You are not alone.

Reading the Bible is oxygen for our souls, and although we know this to be true, we often fail to regularly be in God’s Word despite our best intentions. Like most areas of life, we plan to fail when we fail to plan, so we invite you to embark on a two-year journey through God’s redemptive story that will transform your heart and mind.

This Bible Reading Plan is:

  • Cover to Cover – Complete the Old and New Testaments once and Psalms and Proverbs twice

  • Chronological – Read through the Bible in the order the events occurred

  • Achievable – Two to three chapters per day, five days a week

  • 2-Years – Allows for catch-up days so you do not get behind and give up

  • Life-Changing – Nothing will accelerate your spiritual growth like the daily practice of being in God’s Word

To get the most out of your Bible study, we recommend you:

  • Select a regular time and place to read that is free of distractions • Pray and ask God to speak to you through your reading

  • Mark or highlight meaningful phrases or verses

  • Write down in a journal what God reveals to you as you read
