Baptism

Baptism is a picture of how our acceptance of Christ as our Savior has caused us to take on His characteristics. We are “buried” with him in baptism, and “raised” to a new life in Him. Down with the old…up with the new.

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
— Romans 6:4

Baptism is a symbol of our salvation…it shows a good conscience toward God…it unifies us as believers, confirming that we belong together. The inner washing of the sin from our hearts must always come first. But the Bible is also clear that Christ-followers must follow Christ. If He said baptism was important, then it is important.

Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
— 1 Peter 3:21
And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.
— Acts 22:16
