Read Galatians 3:23-24. If the law was a gift from God, why does it also imprison us and hold us captive? Why can’t we be justified by following the law?
Read Galatians 3:25-29. What does it mean to be united to Christ? What’s the difference between being justified by Christ and being adopted through Him?
Read Galatians 4:4-7. What blessings do we receive as sons of God? Why are daughters not mentioned here?
Apply: How does the passage change my life?
If we (the church) are all one in Christ Jesus, that should change how we live. How does being united in Christ change how we think about and act toward one another?
How does believing that you are already a child of God change your relationship with Jesus? Specifically, how does it affect how you carry out spiritual disciplines (bible reading, prayer, gathering with the church, etc.)?
Respond: How do I respond to what God has said?
Praise Jesus for redeeming you from slavery and adopting you as a son! As you pray, spend time reflecting on what it really means to be safe as a child of God.
Ask God to bring someone you know out of slavery into freedom as a son.
Confess to Christ any place you may be trying to still earn your freedom and security in His family. As you do, ask Him to help you rest in what He’s already done for you.
