Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me

The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. Tough Question Alert: Think about something you hold onto tightly, but when you think about it deeply, it is of no value in the end? How did it become that way? Is there something of great value which you give less value to? Why?

  2. What do you think the key difference is between owning something and stewarding it?

Into the Bible

The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover the truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

  1. Read the following verses about foolishness: Psalm 14:1, 92:6; Proverbs 1:7, 1:22 10:8, 10:23 . What do you see as common among those who are fools or foolish in these passages? What other passages in scripture mention ‘fools’ or ‘foolish’

  2. Read 1 Corinthians 3:18-23. In your own words, what is Paul saying here? How do you live out the wisdom in this passage?

Application

The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. Read Jonah 3:1-3. What can you gather about Jonah’s attitude from reading these few verses? Go back and read Jonah 1:2-3. What’s different about Jonah from chapter 1 to 3? Have you had a Jonah-like situation? What happened?

  2. Read Jonah 3:4-5. What caused the Ninevites to repent? How did the Ninevites repent?

Read Romans 10:13-15 . Our lived lives should be evidence of Jesus' work in us, but our living isn’t the spoken Gospel. Why must the Gospel be spoken? Can you confidently proclaim the Gospel? If not, what do you need to do?
