Hey, parents! Christmas is right around the corner, and for followers of Christ, this is one of the most exciting and important times of the year.

However, it’s also a time where the world around us bombards us with the message that the more stuff we have and buy for our friends and family, the happier we will be. And sometimes, we buy into that message ourselves.

So, how do we fight that message and teach our children, in word and deed, why we really celebrate Christmas?

In Luke chapter 2, when an angel appears to tell the shepherds of the birth of Jesus Christ, he says, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”

Christmas isn’t about Saint Nick, the north pole, or the newest pair of Nikes. No, it’s about celebrating the birth of our Savior that extends a message of great joy to all the nations.

So, this Christmas, as you celebrate all your usual traditions with your family, ask the question: How can our Christmas traditions best remind us of the good news that brings great joy for all the people?
