Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me

The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. Think of a time when you placed your confidence in someone to accomplish something for you. How important of a task was it? Would you trust them to do it again?

Into the Bible

The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover the truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

  1. Read 1 John 2:4-6. John doesn't hold back when it comes to confirming who knows Jesus. He knows what is at stake! What makes you confident in your salvation?

  2. Read 1 John 2:19. This verse talks about people who at one time claimed Christ as Savior but abandoned Him. What would make a person not stay true to the confession of Jesus as their Savior? How do you stay true to your confession?

Application

The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. Read Hebrews 12:1a. Sermon Point: Real Faith Fights. When sin tries to lure us away, look to Jesus. When culture promises us a better life where we are celebrated for going with the masses, look to Jesus. When running the race gets hard, look to Jesus. The way to press on is to follow the cloud of witnesses and fix our eyes on Jesus. In the everyday things of life, what are ways you can fight to be obedient to Jesus’ commands?

  2. Read Hebrews 12:1b. Sermon Point: Real Faith Endures. Enduring faith, which strives after Jesus, builds the Kingdom one brick at a time. We have to lay the bricks of healthy churches, healthy families, and healthy spiritual disciplines. We have to lay the bricks of generosity, reconciliation, and charity. We have to lay the bricks of discipleship, community, and fellowship. What do you think the keys to enduring are in your life? What things have you witnessed in other believer’s lives that have stood out to you that have helped you endure?

  3. Read Hebrews 12:2. Sermon Point: Real Faith Looks. When we say Jesus is the object of our faith, we mean that He is the one in whom we put our faith. He is the one upon whom our faith is built. And He is the one who first produced faith in us. Your faith in Christ is something Jesus produced in you. You have faith because Jesus gave you faith - He is the Founder of our faith. In what ways has your faith endured, even grown, over the years? What would you tell a new believer to give them a right expectation of what is to come?
