Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you were dependent upon someone else for support or assistance? What was the situation? How did you rely on them?
Think of a time in your life when a tough situation turned to triumph. What was going on? What was the result? How did you see God working in that time?
Into the Bible
The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover the truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.
Read Philippians 2:1-11. How do verses 3-8 relate to the story of Ruth and the love of Boaz?
Read Luke 9:23-27. We do not have to repeat the work of Jesus on the cross. What He did was once for all who believe in Him. What does this passage in Luke say, in your own words, and how is it like Jesus’ sacrifice? How does Boaz resemble this passage?
Application
The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.
Read Ruth 4:1-6. How would you compare Boaz with the other potential redeemer? What kind of characteristics would you say each of them had? How do those characteristics compare to Jesus?
Read Ruth 4:7-12. In v.7, what does redeeming and exchanging remind you of? This section speaks of several women from the Old Testament. What do you know about them? Describe their story and what God did through them.
Read Ruth 4:13-17. How does this passage describe the kingdom of God and the family He builds?
Read Ruth 4:18-22. What is significant about this genealogy?
