Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me

The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. Has there been a time in your life, either short-term or extended season, where you have experienced any kind of suffering? How did you react/respond during that time? Do you feel you responded biblically?

  2. Has someone close to you experienced suffering? Did you play a role in helping them through? How?

Into the Bible

The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover the truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

  1. Read: 1 Peter 4:12. When Peter says, “do not be surprised,” what is he doing for his audience and in turn us?

  2. Peter goes on to say, “to test you.” What does he mean by this?

Application

The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. Read Romans 8:18 and 2 Corinthian 4:8-12,16-17. What in our day and age could we consider as suffering? How should we respond to suffering based on these passages?

  2. Romans 8:28 tells us, “all things work together for good.” When we think about suffering, the word “good” typically doesn’t come to mind. What is meant by good in this passage? How does this verse prepare you for things to come?

Read Romans 8:31-39. What emotion does this passage create within you or what thought comes to your mind after reading this? How would you summarize this passage as a reminder for yourself?
