Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. What is the difference between hearing and obeying?

  2. Why do you think we have such a huge obedience issue in our culture today?

Into the Bible

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

Read:    Exodus 23:20-22

  1. What is happening here? What is the content of this passage?

  2. What was the key point in the message? What would Israel need to do to be kept safe?

Application:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. In today's message, we talked about the moral and spiritual battle we see raging around us. Whose battle is this? Why do you say that?

  2. In Joshua 8, God makes it crystal clear that the battle is God’s alone. But in what way are we asked to participate?

  3. Part of obedience is to do whatever it is that God sets before us. Sometimes obedience to God means swinging a sword, and sometimes it means rocking a baby to sleep. Whatever the job, how is it still God’s battle if we are engaged in the physical work?

  4. What has God set before you that you are successfully engaging in? What battle, if any, are you running from?

  5. What is one area of your life are you willing to engage God in prayer? The battle is His alone! Please take the time to commit to prayer over one aspect of your life that only God can transform.
