January 20, 2019 Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. Tell us about the best dinner party you ever experienced?  What made it special?

  2. What does hospitality mean to you?

  3. Who in your life is great at hospitality?  What do they do well?

Into the Bible:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

Read 1 Peter 4:9-10

9 Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.

  1. Why is it important to avoid grumbling when practicing hospitality?

  2. What does verse 10 mean?

  3. How can people experience God’s grace through our hospitality?  What can you specifically do to help them experience grace?

Application:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. How can you invite people into your real and sometimes messy version of your life versus the super neat put together version?

  2. What is one specific way you can show hospitality to a neighbor or co-worker this week?

  3. What would it look like for hospitality to become a lifestyle versus something you do once in a while? How can your friends and/or people from your life group help you lean into that kind of life?
