Get to know me:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. Who is the first friend you can remember? Are you still close today, & why?

  2. Has your friend selection process changed since your early childhood? How?

  3. Each Christian is an important part of the Church Body. What is your favorite way to be a close friend?

Into the Bible:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

Read 1 Samuel 20: 30 & 31

  1. Explain why Saul became so angry with Jonathan. What was the context?

  2. What did it cost Jonathan to become a Covenant Friend with David?

  3. True friendships like David and Jonathan, are often personally expensive & often inconvenient. What benefits do we see in Covenant Friendships that make those sacrifices worth it?

Application:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. Digital Technology & Social Media are often roadblocks that keep some people from finding true & real connections. Why is that, and what can Christians do about it?

  2. This week, what is something you could do or sacrifice to help your “1” see friendship the way Christ intended it?

  3. Christ displayed the truest form of Friendship through self sacrifice. What activity or practice could we add to our daily lives that could make us each better, deeper, or more true friends; as we seek to mimic Christ in all things?
