Fulfilling the Great Commission.

If we want to fulfill the call that Jesus gave us to “make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:19), then we need to know how to share the gospel. In Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians he writes, “…we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves” (1 Thess. 2:8). As you go share your life with others, share the gospel! Here are a few helpful statements and verses to remember as you go:

1. We are Dependent on God.

Before we evangelize (proclaim/share the gospel), it's crucial to know that people's eternal fate isn't solely dependent on our presentation of the gospel. God is the one who saves people. We pray and convey His message, and He handles the outcome. Responsibility is ours, the results are for The Lord.

John 6:37, “All that the Father gives me (Jesus) will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out”.

2. Talk about sin.

You may want to jump straight to explaining Jesus’ sacrifice when sharing the gospel, which is vital. Yet, it’s crucial to ensure the person understands why Jesus had to die for them. If they don’t recognize their sin before a holy God, they won’t grasp the cross’ significance. We must start by acknowledging our need for a Savior. It’s like being offered medicine by a stranger; without understanding the illness, you wouldn’t take it. Similarly, if told, “I’m giving this because I love you,” it sounds strange. But if you hear, “This cures a fatal illness you have,” you’d understand the need and take it.

Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

3. Talk about Jesus.

Don’t dwell excessively on humanity’s sinfulness. Quickly emphasize Jesus, who defines the gospel’s goodness. Explain how Jesus carried their sin, making them righteous before God. Describe His act of taking our deserved punishment, granting freedom from sin’s consequences and unity with Him. Sharing your personal testimony is a powerful approach. Remember, only Jesus’ blood cures the deep-rooted ailment of sin in human hearts.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

4. Tell Them How To Be Saved.

If by the power of the Holy Spirit, they grasp their need for God’s grace due to their sin and Jesus’ provision for reconciliation, we address their response. Mark 1:15 instructs us to “repent and believe the good news.” Following Jesus means more than a simple change; it’s a life transformation. Surrendering to Jesus, we’re renewed (Romans 10:13 & 2 Corinth. 5:17). We ask Him for belief (Phil. 1:29) and repentance.

Romans 10:9 “…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Final Note.

Evangelism is our purpose on Earth (2 Corinth. 5:18-19). It might feel challenging, yet the Holy Spirit empowers us (Acts 1:8). Immerse yourself in God’s Word, then share Jesus boldly wherever you are—classrooms, dinner tables, over coffee, and even when a salesman comes to your door. Seize every opportunity to proclaim the good news of Jesus to those around you.
