Room in the Inn offers hospitality and hope to guests who would otherwise find themselves on the streets. They provide shelter, meals, clothing, and toiletries to homeless men during the winter months (November–March). Small groups or individuals can serve by signing up to provide dinner, breakfast or lunch on Fridays from November through March.

Community Servants is a non-profit ministry created to serve Jesus by impacting lives of North Rutherford County residents with the love of Christ through construction projects, Community Kids Program, Family Reading Nights, ESL (Conversational English), GED tutoring, and summer internship.

Community Servants offers both Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced ESL classes. Classes meet Tuesday & Thursday mornings from 9-11am and at night from 6-8pm. Volunteers are needed to assist the teachers with discussions at all classes as well as help with childcare for children of English class students during the morning sessions.

Community Servants at Wherry Housing has a clothing closet that services people in North Rutherford county. People can get clothing from the closet once a month. Volunteers are needed to sort, fold, and hang clothes as well as serve the clients. 

Volunteers are also needed during October to help change out the seasons.

Carpe Artista is a non-profit organization focused on creating positive culture globally by developing local arts communities and training artists in multiple genres. Carpe Cafe ministers to the local arts culture through programming, workshops, music and special events. The cafe relies on volunteers to work in the coffee house during open hours, serving the customers and building relationships with the arts community. Volunteers are also needed for special events, festivals and concerts.

Carpe Artista also owns Carpe Cafe, a local artisan cafe specializing in handcrafted entrees, coffees, teas and sweets to offer our community. Each purchase supports Art Education and the mentoring of Creatives. We welcome volunteers to serve with us in the kitchen, as baristas and front of the house - come join us as we create a table for others to enjoy and connect.

On-going opportunity for high school aged and up - 4 hour work shifts, Monday through Saturday with flexible hours.

Light Construction Work

Carpe Artista owns a building on Front Street in Smyrna that will become their training center for the arts. Currently they are using it for lessons and event rentals. They are needing assistance with painting, cleaning, and building shelving, and outdoor clean up to help prepare the building to train children and adults in the arts.

On-going opportunity for middle school aged kids and up.

 
Depot Days
September 29 & 30 | All Day | Smyrna, TN

Smyrna Depot Days is an annual event held in early Fall. This event is product of Smyrna Independent Merchant Association (SiMA). The event connects local businesses with the community they serve.

Sew Much More — lifept.org/sew  

 

Sew Much More meets twice a year. Once in the fall (September) and sews 250 reversible dresses for girls and once in the spring (April) and sews shorts for boys all delivered to third world countries via LifePoint mission trips. Small groups can serve together or individuals can invite a friend. You can help sew, cut, iron, flip and tag the dresses (Non-sewers are welcome too!). The minimum age to serve with this is 6th grade due to liability of scissors and hot irons. Donations for fabric are welcomed year round.

Foster Care Ministry

Shepherd’s Clothing Closet supplies children in foster care system in Rutherford County with new or gently used age appropriate clothing, new personal hygiene items, and school supplies at no cost. Volunteers are needed to help sort, organize, and hang up clothes; stuff care bags and backpack supplies; as well as donate clothing and supplies. Volunteers are also needed for monthly meetings to babysit foster kids.

The Shepherd's Supply Clothing Closet is a local storage facility used to cloth foster children and at-risk youth in Rutherford County, TN. Volunteers are needed to sort and hang clothing as they prepare for the season to change.

The Journey Home provides daily meals and personal necessities to the homeless of Rutherford County. Their ministry center is located in the heart of Murfreesboro. Join an existing team or go as a small group to prepare and serve meals to the homeless.

First Friends

Shepherd’s Rest Ministry matches individuals and families to MTSU international students during their study time here in the States. These people often become these students’ best friends as they live out their Christian love for them. You can volunteer to be a First Friend partner by meeting with the student at least once a month. You can also help with the Tuesday night dinner where they provide a meal for 40-50 international students. Volunteers are needed to foster relationships with international students as we sponsor luncheons, coffees, socials, camping, and weekend trips. Small groups are encouraged to get involved by serving on a Tuesday night by providing a meal and relationships with the international students.

Every year Shepherds Rest Ministry provides a Thanksgiving meal to over a hundred international students at MTSU. Small groups and individuals are needed to help provide food for the dinner.

Every Tuesday Night | 5pm | PSF House off MTSU Campus

Shepherd’s Rest Ministry matches individuals and families to MTSU international students during their study time here in the States. Chalet Apartment Ministry

Chalet Apartment Ministry reaches out to the children and families living in the Chalet Apartment complex in Smyrna. There are many ways you can be a part of the ministry: you can volunteer to help with an existing activity or plan an event such as sports day, girls night, game night, craft making, etc. on a weekend or evening during the week. Homework club meets after school from 2:45-5:00pm during the school year.

Clear View Retreat (CVR) is a nonprofit ministry. Service opportunities are for individuals or small groups. Work with refugee high school students at our twice a week after school program. Help students prepare to graduate high school and to find a place to feel supported and belong through helping through homework help, cultural activities, English conversation or simply laughter.

Addiction Ministry Volunteers

Spring 2 Life’s mission is to be a light to men through the testimonies God has given us, as well as present them with hope and freedom. Spring 2 Life is currently in need of volunteers to work alongside the ministry. Participation will vary from person to person because everyone is gifted with different abilities. Below are the ways you can get involved. 

Become a mentor to those recovering from addictions.

Hang out with the guys on a Monday or Tuesday night. Teach a Bible study or share your testimony.

Small groups can plan a fun hang out night for the men. How about a day of paint-ball, pontoons on the lake, horseback riding, hiking, bowling, movie night, BBQ hang out, or anything! 

Help with maintenance and repairs at the Spring 2 Life Lodge in Woodbury, TN. The Lodge is always in need of repairs.
