Think of a time when you did what you were supposed to, say at your job or somewhere else. What did you expect in return for doing what you were supposed to? Have you been promised something more, say a bonus or such, by going above and beyond? How has extra incentive driven you to do “more”? Why?

Read Matthew 6:1-4. Matthew records Jesus speaking about “reward” 11 times in his gospel. We see this 3 times in Matthew 6:1-4. In these few passages, from the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus is giving caution to us about calling attention to our charity. He says our acts don’t need to be seen or known by others in order to be rewarded. Why is that? Who does Jesus tell us to avoid being like?
Read Colossians 3:23-24. Paul is speaking specifically to bondservants in these passages, but it is not limited to just them. Bondservant could refer to someone who voluntarily served others. But it usually referred to one who was held in a permanent position of servitude. Paul is essentially telling them to remember who they truly serve, which is God, and from Him the true reward will come. What could be some examples of how this passage can apply to current times? How is our reward similar to a first-century bondservant?

Read Hebrews 11:24-26. When we understand even the basic commands of God, we know we will have to make hard decisions in this world. What are examples of rewards promised by God and rewards of the world and how do they compare?
Read Hebrews 11:27. Drawing contempt from leaders is not something we regularly strive to do. Think of some scenarios where we would take heat in this day and age for following Jesus. How would you respond based on the end of 1 Peter 3:15?
Read Hebrews 11:28. Moses witnessed God's work with all the plagues He brought on pharaoh and Egypt so he knew what God could do. When it came time to prepare for the Passover, Moses didn't have to think twice. What are some things God has done in your life to know that what He has promised to come true will come true?
