Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. Think of a time when you were told something so important you had to tell others. What was it? Why was it so important? How did those you told react when you told them?

Into the Bible: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover the truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

  1. Read Psalm 1:2, 37:31, 40;8, 119:18. God’s word, the law as we read in the OT, is what guides the minds of those who follow Him. Listening to His word and thinking on His word does so much for the believer. What scripture brings you joy in your hearing? What scripture gives you comfort in tough times? What Scripture do you turn to when you begin to stray from the Word?

  2. Read Matthew 7:24-27. We are fortunate that we get to have the written word of God. We have a God who felt it was necessary and right that His word was recorded and shared for all to know Him and make Him known. Think of or find three verses or portions of Scripture you would like to share with someone who doesn't know Jesus. What are they? Why would you share these?

Application: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. Read Psalm 46:10. Sermon Point: Be still and know. The Psalm begins by declaring that God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in times of trouble.  So, we will not fear no matter what happens or how bad it looks. How often do you stop and just think about God and what He has done in your life? Where else in Scripture have we been told to stop or rest? Why is it important that we are to be still and reflect on God?

  2. Read Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; Romans 10:14-15. Sermon Point: Go and make known. Knowing God isn’t just for our benefit.  It’s not just about securing a get of hell free card.  It’s not about God being my genie in a bottle that grants my wishes.  Knowing God is about making God known all over the world.  You’re saved to be sent and redeemed to represent. What is the nearest mission you can go on and what would you do/say? How can you be helped or encouraged to take this short mission “trip” (practice the Gospel, practice a conversation, etc.)? Besides this short mission “trip”, what's next that you can do to serve Jesus and make Him known?
