Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. Think of a time when you gave something away for a good reason. What did you give away? Did it have any value to you? Why did you give it away? How did it benefit the recipient?

Into the Bible: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover the truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

  1. Read Philippians 2:3-8. When you hear the word servant, what comes to mind? What does Jesus have in mind for us when He tells us to serve one another?

  2. Read Matthew 6:24. What does it mean to serve two masters? Why are we not able to serve two masters?

Application: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. Read Genesis 14:18-21; Leviticus 27:30; Deuteronomy 14:22-23; Malichi 3:8-10; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7. Why do you think money is such a touchy subject in the church? Why do you think how you spend your money is a big deal to God? How do you reconcile that all things are His, even when you are the one working for it?

  2. Read Ephesians 5:15-16. What are some things you can think of that take up time but have little to no value? Would you say that most of the time you spend your time on things of value? What ways could we better use time that seems to be wasted, e.g. commuting to work, waiting at the doctor or kids athletic practice?

  3. Read Matthew 25:14-30. In what way or ways has the Lord given you talent that benefits you or others? How do you use this talent to serve the church or community? What talents do you have that could be better developed to serve the church or community?
