Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. Think of a time when the message of the Gospel seemed foreign to you, then a time when the Gospel was fully alive. Describe those times in your life.

Into the Bible: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover the truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

  1. Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-11. Paul's letter to the church in Corinth is about admonishment and correction, to help them through reminder of how they should live out the salvation they received. How would you summarize the passage in 15:1-11 as a way to present the Gospel with confidence?

  2. Read 2 Peter 1:16-21. Peter does such a good job giving assurance to fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, especially in this passage. In v.19 he says, “And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed.” How do you think the word is now more fully confirmed?

Application: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. Read Luke 24:1-3. Those that went to the tomb found it open and empty. Why is the empty tomb so important? What would it mean if the tomb wasn't empty?

  2. Read Luke 24:4-7. The two men (angels) at the tomb reminded the group of what Jesus had told them on a number of occasions. These disciples would have hung on Jesus’ every word, but they still forgot. Find and read the verses in the gospel letters where Jesus said He would rise on the third day.

  3. Read Luke 24:8-12. Think of the changed emotions once it dawned on them that Jesus had returned. Praise God for His truth and promise! How does the news of the empty tomb impact you today?
