Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me

The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. Think of something that lives rent free in your mind that takes up space and you dwell on it all too often. Is it something that makes you mad? Sad? Scared? Reflect on self instead of God? What is it? What comes out of your thinking?

Into the Bible

The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover the truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

  1. Read Philippians 4:8-9. How would you say this passage is in contrast to Jonah 4?

  2. Read 1 Thessalonians 1:2-10. Describe Paul’s attitude towards these people in contrast to Jonah's to the Ninevites. What is a key factor that distinguishes Paul from Jonah?

Application

The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. Read Jonah 4:1-4. How would you describe Jonah's attitude? Have you experienced God's work in yourself or someone else, yet you were displeased? What

  2. Read Jonah 4:5-11. What does this situation make you think about Jonah? What does this situation make you think about God? What does this situation make you think about yourself?
