Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me

The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. What ideas or topics have you had to change your mind on because of the truth of scripture?

Into the Bible

The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover the truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

  1. Read Ephesians 5:22-28. How would you summarize that passage of scripture simply to describe the relationship between the wife, husband, and Jesus?

  2. In verse 22 we read ”submit...as to the Lord.” What does this mean? What are specific things wives can submit? Transparency question: Wives, on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rank yourself compared to this verse? Why?

  3. In verse 25 we read “as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” What are some ways Jesus loved His Church? Transparency question: Husbands, on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rank yourself compared to this verse? Why?

Application

The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. Read Colossians 3:18-21. What characteristics would a family have if each family member lived out Jesus’ commands in this passage? Which of these characteristics could you adopt in your family?

  2. Read Colossians 3:22. In what kind of situations would it be right to disobey a boss or someone in authority? Can you think of passages in scripture where this has happened? (Freebie: John 5:27-32. Hint: Rhymes with Spaniel Tree)

Read Colossians 3:23-24. What ways have you thought of your job as worship? What ways could you consider your job as worship?
