Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. What would you say is the hardest step of any Journey…why?

  2. What difference would it make if you knew you had a highly skilled & experienced guide leading the way?

Into the Bible

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

Read:    Matthew 14: 22-32

  1. What difference did it make for Peter as he was distracted by the storm & then again as he returned his focus to Jesus?

  2. What parallels can you draw in your own life experience?

Application:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. Cultural Christians may talk a good game, but when it comes to sacrificing for God’s Kingdom, you can’t find them.  What does having an authentic relationship with God look like?  (Think Joshua from today’s Sermon)

  2. If we wait to authentically engage God until our school years are done, until we know enough, until our finances are sorted out, until our kids are raised, until our retirement is solid, until our health is better….until our WHATEVER arrives…we may not ever take the next step in becoming a true DISCIPLE of Jesus Christ. What would your best friend or spouse say, is keeping you from taking the next step in faith?

  3. When we obediently step into Faith, we get to participate in God’s victories! In that, Joshua set an amazing example. What modern day examples at LP can you point to that give you inspiration & drive you to lean more fully into a Faithful relationship with our Heavenly Papa?

  4. What 1 thing are you willing to adjust, add, or subtract; in an effort to step out on the water with Jesus more often? What help do you need to get there?
