Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. Why do you think it is so difficult for humans in general to face the temptation of inappropriate sexual desire?

Into the Bible

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

Read: James 1: 12-15

  1. How would you apply this scripture to the temptation of Lust?

  2. What does it mean when the Vs says, “Then desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin.”?

Application:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. When would you say that seeing/looking becomes lust?

  2. How do we “pluck out our eye”, so to speak….What does that really mean?

  3. We can revel in our sins walking headlong into death, or we can sacrifice temporary pleasure drawing closer to God. What would you sacrifice if you truly believed that?

  4. Sexual addictions are every bit as powerful as Opium, Methamphetamines, Cocaine, Alcohol, & other substances. In fact, sexual addiction produces some of the same chemical responses in our brain. If you have become enslaved to this “drug”, what help is there for you?

  5. When you remove a habit from your life that is hurting you, it creates a vacuum. A vacuum wants to be filled again. If we don’t put something good in its place, most bad habits creep back in….what will you put in place of your sin?
