March 3, 2019 Sermon Discussion Questions
Get to know me:
Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.
Share an example of a time someone went out of their way to serve or help you in some way? How did that make you feel?
Have you ever had to deal with something pretty gross to help someone you love? Why did you do it?
Jesus certainly didn’t have to wash his disciples gross feet! Why do you think Jesus chose to do it? What does that say about what we should do as followers of Christ?
Into the Bible:
Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.
9 Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:9-11
What do you think this passage means by show hospitality and why is it important to not grumble?
What does verse 10 mean?
How can we serve “by the strength that God supplies”?
Application:
Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.
How can we love one another as Jesus loves us?
Are you currently serving somewhere in the church? What would be a good place for you to start serving based on your giftings?
What are some specific, practical ways to humbly serve people in our lives?
