February 24, 2019 Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. What did you grow up thinking about Jesus?

  2. What did you grow up thinking about Church?

  3. Share about the moment when you encountered Jesus for the first time? How did that shape your life, emotions, and actions?

Into the Bible:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

John 12:3-6 –– 3 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, 5 “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” 6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it.

  1. Why do you think Mary poured out such an expensive item on Jesus’ feet?

  2. How is Mary’s relationship with Jesus different than Judas’?

  3. We all have tendencies to act like Mary or Judas. How are you acting like Mary? How are you acting like Judas?

Application:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. In your personal life, what are some things that a committed relationship with Jesus might cost you?

  2. How can we make sure that we not only have true belief in who Jesus really is, but also that our beliefs more deeply impact our everyday life?

  3. What are some ways you can offer up what is most valuable to you to the Lord?
