Week of February 10, 2019 Sermon Discussion Questions

Get to know me:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to generate responses that are self-revealing and informative. Feel free to ask all of these questions to your group or simply choose the one that best fits your group.

  1. What TV show best portrays a real family? Why?

  2. Who is the best parent you have ever seen?  Talk about what you admire about them.

  3. As a current or future parent, what is one way you would like to show your kids the love of Christ through your parenting?

Into the Bible:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to draw group members into the Bible to discover truth from passages that were not the primary text for the weekend message.

Ephesians 6:1-4 — Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

  1. What does it look like to honor your father and mother?

  2. What do you think verse 4 means?

Application:

Instructions: The purpose of these questions is to apply the main points from the weekend message.

  1. How can you be a better parent and/or child?

  2. Part of the sermon discussed how hard parenting can be.  When it gets really tough, what are some ways you can lean on God?

  3. How can you invite your life group or other important Christians in your life to help support you in hard times like these?
