Team Rules

Teams & Players:

Teams consist of six-eight players, and are encouraged to be in unique team uniforms. Team names and uniforms may not contain vulgar or inappropriate graphics/text. Teams must all be of like age and gender. Girls groups will only face girls groups and guys groups will only face guys groups, and each group will start out facing a team of the same grade. There will be no picking up or trading players once roster is set.

Prizes:

The winner or each tournament (high school guys, high school girls, middle school guys, and middle school girls) will win a team prize of $200, and of course bragging rights for the rest of the year. There will also be a prizes for the teams with the best uniforms.

Game Rules:

Each game is played until all opponents on one side have been eliminated. The first team to eliminate all its opponents is declared the winner. Each game (10 minute max) will consist of the best 2 out of 3 and is single elimination for the tournament. Once your team is eliminated your team is out of the tournament.

Depending on amount of students, tournament is subject to last longer than expected and possibly go past time frame given.

Referees:

A referee will supervise all games. The referee’s decision is final! No exceptions! Excessive arguing will cost that team another player. All players are expected to be honorable and on their best behavior. Please call yourself out even if the referee did not see you!!!

Code of Conduct:

  1. Any player caught cheating (example: sneaking back into the game after already being called out, or not going out after being hit) will be called out and the team will be disqualified from the tournament. All players are expected to be on their best behavior.

  2. Cussing and other explicit language will result in automatic disqualification.

  3. Respect all referees and other adult leaders.

Game Play:

You get a player out by:

  1. Hitting an opposing player with the dodgeball.

  2. Catching the ball an opposing player has thrown before it touches the ground.

A player is out if:

  1. You are hit by a thrown ball by the opposing team (clothing is considered part of the body).

  2. The opposing team member catches a ball you throw before it touches the ground.

  3. You cross the centerline.

Additional Rules

  1. Once a player is called out, they cannot come back into the game.

  2. If a ball hits another ball, which a player has in their possession, it does not make either player out.

  3. You may use the dodgeball to deflect an opponents throw
    - If a deflected ball is caught (without hitting the ground) the thrower is out.

  4. If a ball hits a referee or audience, the ball is considered “dead”.

  5. Balls that leave the designated court area, will be retrieved by audience or adult leaders. You do not need to leave the court.

  6. The ENTIRE BODY is free to hit.
    - This means if someone accidentally gets hit in the head, they are out. However, if it appears that a player is deliberately aiming for heads, the ref is to warn the player once, and eject him/her if there is further misconduct.

  7. Each player may hold two dodgeballs max. There is a 15 second time limit to hold the balls.
